Top 10 Vegan Documentaries

This article is part of my series dedicated to vegan information resources. Veganism has become a modern trend, more and more people are reconsidering their eating habits and are recognizing the validity and relevance of this life style in this day and age. This series introduces you to a selection of vegan resources that have influenced my decision (to one degree or another) to go vegan and further stick to the lifestyle. Particularly in this article you will find a list of 7 Must-Watch Documentaries to this topic.

About The Series

Five fundamental reasons for going vegan are: Health, Animals, Environment, justice (human rights protection) and taste (because vegan food is delicious). However, related topics are not limited by this shortlist. Any vegan could name hundreds of reasons and benefits of the vegan lifestyle, that is, if you are willing to listen 😉

There is such a tremendous amount of information on veganism out there, so to make it easier for you, I have compiled a list of resources that are, in my opinion, the most useful and impactful. To begin with, I invite you to acquaint yourself with reasons for going vegan in two of my compilations: Top 5 Short Veganism-Related YouTube Videos and my list of Must-Watch Documentaries (below) that answer so many questions related to veganism and go in depth in discovery of all the aspects of veganism from ethics to health.

Vegan 2020

This film covers topics of connection between meat/dairy industry and COVID-19. The mass breeding of livestock not only provokes the emergence of new viruses, but also makes our immunity weaker. In the meantime, the shift towards plant-based nutrition in social behavior continues.

Home (2009)

One of the first movies I watched on the topic of ecology. The film was directed by the scientist, artist and photographer Jan Arthus-Bertrand. In 18 months his film crew traveled to 53 countries of the world. Basically the film is made up of pictures taken from the air (the author tells more about the filming itself in the director’s version, it is also worth watching). Stunningly beautiful, showing such corners of the planet that simply amaze with their beauty! I watched this film a thousand times, and often with tears.

The film draws attention to the simple and naked fact about how everything in nature is interconnected, and how our well-being depends on the well-being of other life forms. Not a word about veganism, no outright cruelty, shocking scenes of violence – the movie grabs for every heartstring in sight, showing the beauty and grandeur of the place where we live.

Seasparicy (2021)

Not yet available online, but available on Netflix. Shocking movie covering important and well-ignored topics

The Game Changers (2019)

A sensational film about veganism, reveals the question of whether it is possible to build muscle on a plant-based diet.

H.O. P. E. What You Eat Matters (2018)

A film about the impact of a typical Western diet on health, environment and animals. With the participation of Jane Goodall, T. Colin Campbell, Caldwell B. Esselstin, Vandana Shiva, Melanie Joy and others.

What the Health (2017)

A film that covers all the details regarding the health aspects in connection with vegan diet. As always, with the participation of scientists, doctors, links to research and primary sources of information.

Cowspiracy, (2014)

A film about the ethical side of veganism. Covers almost all issues, but with a focus on revealing the true state of affairs with livestock, animal living conditions and production processes. After watching it, it becomes clear why vegetarianism isn’t that ethical as we thought.

Forks Over Knives (2011)

A film in which the author conducts an investigation into the causes of diseases such as diabetes, cancer, heart and vascular diseases, obesity. There are many convincing facts about the benefits of plant-based nutrition and the dangers of meat consumption.

Food Matters (2008)

A documentary about the interest of pharmaceutical companies in the illness of people. It’s not profitable to let people recover fully. Unfortunately, I could find only trailer available on youtube.

Earthlings (2005)

Amazing moovie that inspired many people to start their vegan journey. We are all – one big family on earth. Earth is our home – and we are earthlings.
