Almond milk

Almond Milk in 10 minutes

I like to add plant-based milk to my hot drinks (tea, coffee, cocoa). Soya milk is my favourite, almond milk – second favourite. However, it is not that easy to make tasty home-made soya milk: I had several attempts, it took me a lot of effort, and still I like factory-made better. Quite different situation with almond milk – I find it so easy, that I see no reason not to make it at home! Moreover, I always feel discomfort buying too much tetra packages. So benefits of home-made almond milk are awesome:

  •  Tastes better then factory-made
  •  You control the additives (I personally add nothing: no sugar, nor salt)
  •  Cheaper in the long run
  •  Zero-waste. I mean, no extra plastic at your home, and moreover! You can get 100% from almond nuts by using leftovers for further recipes. That will make your almond milk even cheaper for you)

So this is my simple method of making home-made almond milk. It takes me 10 min (including time I spend to wash the container and nut milk bag). I usually make portion of 500 ml and use it within 2 following days.

Ingredients:

Almond nuts 60g
Water 500ml

How to make Almond Milk in 10 minutes

Take 60 grams of almonds and roast them on the skillet for 4-5 min, until you feel the nice nutty smell. It will help to release the inhibitors in nuts, so it will be easier for your body to digest them. Then transfer almonds to blender and add 500 ml of water. Blend it for 1 min, and strain it with a nut milk bag. If you don’t have nut milk bag, you can use cheesecloth or something like this. That’s it! Milk is ready!

You can add a bit of sugar and salt to make the taste even more impressive. In this case, you can store milk in refrigerator even longer than 2 days.

The leftovers (press cake) you can use to make a delicious spread, the recipe of which you can find here. It also takes just about 5 min, and the portion is enough for 4 pieces of bread.

Hope you will enjoy home-made milk in your drink (or in any other way) too! I like to have cocoa with almond milk accompanied with some dessert, for example with brownie, or with caramel layer cake, or with cheesecake, or with cookies…  List goes on and on!!
